How to find the "right" therapist?

Updated: Feb 17, 2020

If you are not regular guests of massage studios, choosing the right specialist or facility can cause you a problem. How do I know they perform well? Will I feel good there? Much depends on the first impression and communication with the client - if you are uncomfortable from the beginning, you may not manage to relax properly during the treatment.

A clean and pleasant environment is standard practice. Quality lotions, oils, clean sheets and towels, pleasant temperature, smell and light in the room say most about the therapist. If you arrive somewhere and don't feel well from the first moment, listen to your intuition and leave!

Massage should always be performed only by a qualified worker, i.e. a masseur or physiotherapist. Feel free to ask about his/her practice. As far as references are concerned, the recommendations of friends are the best. Online references are often inconclusive. Much depends on the personality of the masseur or masseuse - the expert should be communicative and especially before the first treatment should talk to you at least briefly not only about your relationship to massage and experience with them, but also whether you a specific problem arises, or whether something hurts you etc. During the massage itself, the masseur should have warm and clean hands so that the procedure will not be unpleasant.

Last but not least, the therapist should "fit" you. The masseur should be sympathetic to you so that you are able to relax perfectly during the procedure. Muscles must be relaxed, you cannot lie in a spasm because otherwise the result will not be reached.
